Here’s Ta-Ze, a sweet little olive oil shop designed by Burdifilek, here in Toronto. I love the olive tree branches and leaves graphics on the wall and the thin framed shelving on the. The mosaic flooring is equally stunning. Clean and fresh is where it’s at! It also helps that the packaging is lovely as well!

While I’m feeling quite chipper as usual, these are some spaces that could hold a different tune. I love the dark rooms – there is something moody, dignified and mysterious about them.

I never thought much of macrame until I fell upon these pictures – this knotting style has been popping up right and left. I love the headboard! It gives a sort of bohemian/vintage look that’s so sweet. The plant hangers and lighting are also lovely. Is this trending? Because I’d be ok with that!

Today’s covet are these large tilting bowls designed by Staffan Holm, a Swedish multi-faceted designer. These will be featured at the Furniture Fair in Stockholm in February.

I’m surprisingly loving this graphically stunning tableware by CTRLZAK art an design studio for Italian brand Seletti. The inspiration here is the bridging of traditional chinese porcelain and European design aesthetic. Why not? It works! It’s sweet, hip, and with it.

London designer Paul Cocksedge, one of my favourite lighting designers might I add, has created this beautiful 25 meter sculpture titled “Bourrasque” in Lyon, France, for the recent Fête des Lumières.

I have always been a fan of his work, and this one is nothing short of magical. the 200 suspended sheets are set to mimic papers scatteringin a gust of wind – a beautiful bright image against a backdrop of the 17th century architecture of l’Hotel de Ville. Simply beautiful.

May 2012 bring you a year of health, wealth, happiness, luck, warmth, and most of all…good design. xo

Derek from In Good Measure is guest posting about trendy kitchen designs for the new year! Enjoy!

__

2012 is quickly approaching and, as is common at this time, people are beginning to think about what changes and developments will happen in the new year.  What styles and trends will dominate the next 12 months of our lives?  Many homeowners may be planning to remodel portions of their home in 2012, while others may be looking to build or purchase a new home.  The kitchen is an area of the home where you need to allow your creativity to flourish; therefore, your kitchen should be designed to fit your unique style while remaining highly functional.  In any case, you’ll want to be aware of some of the new kitchen trends and designs to watch for in 2012.

One of the emerging trends in kitchen design is the lack of dine details and complex shapes.  Instead, you’ll want to pay attention to simple shapes and sharp lines.  These characteristics will give your kitchen a minimalist look.  Metallic-looking surfaces can help give a kitchen a more modern or even futuristic look, but don’t discount the power of wood surfaces.  Wood can give your kitchen a warmth coziness that may be lacking otherwise, even if you only use it to accent certain areas.

Another trending style in kitchens is the use of a more muted color palette.  Using a muted color scheme with blacks, whites, grays, silvers, and beiges can give your kitchen a professional look.  Consider also adding brightly-colored accents to give your kitchen more flair and personality.

Take a look at these kitchens to get some ideas for your future remodel:

My gosh is it ever getting cold outside. I don’t do well in these condition, friends. I’d rather stay bundled up inside and have some poor soul go fetch my things from the outside world. Unfortunately this utterly unrealistic. Next option is to have quick heating methods. Such as a fireplace. Where you’ll find me sitting about 1 foot away until my skin starts to burn. Will you join me? I also have hot chocolate with mini marshmallows. Yum!

Here’s a guest post from Modern Home Design! Enjoy!
