Well I just did my daily perusal of Yahoo news and I came across this!

This, friends, is New York old City Hall subway station in  that opened in 1904! Geez! Can we all just stop and observe the architecture? Isn’t it beautiful? Look at the glass ceiling and the herringbone tile work on the arches!

In Toronto, we have this…

…piece of…Bay Station, which opened in 1966. It’s no longer used, and they say it’s haunted. Right. So much less cooler than the NY subway stop. So scroll back up and see the first image again. Ooooh. Aaaah.

Anyway. This subway stop hasn’t been opened in a few decades. Subway riders can now take a few extra minutes of their trip to pass by this station. The 6 train, to be specific. Although you can’t get out at the stop, you can still see the beauty from inside the train. Apparently, it was closed due to the curve track and the fact that there would be too much space (deemed dangerous) between the exit point of the train and the platform. Sigh.

So if you live in New York, I urge you to take a look at this old masterpiece! It’s simply beautiful!

I fell upon this very cute website called The Arthur based out of Toronto. Each objects is more fun, unique and interesting than the previous. Here is this is their M.O.:

“Arthur and Jane were married for 65 years. They amassed a phenomenal amount of items. Each item contained its own little history. Arthur was always happy to edit and refine, while Jane was dedicated to collecting and savouring every item and it’s story.

I am the product of Arthur and Jane. It’s in my genes to collect items and their stories. But instead of hoarding them, I’d like to pass these little stories on to you. We save these objects of the past from being forgotten and now they have new life with your stories to be added.”

My parents home is a designated historical home in Toronto, built in 1881. To this day, in my basement, I find vintage bottles, crates, furniture and many other objects dating back decates, maybe even centuries! Should you not have this cave of old nick-nacks like I have access to, The Arthur is sure to have what you’re looking for.

I’ve always loved this style. Super modern and simple. This desk is perfect for any office. I know, you’re all probably thinking “what about storage”? If you’re like me, and like to keep your table top as neat as possible, think of a mobile pedestal that can easily fit underneath or be moved around as you need, or some shelving with magazine butlers or storage boxes.

Oye! Oye! I perused the local T.O.Night magazine and spotted a teeny tiny article about a new store that has just opened on Queen St. West here in Toronto, called Design Republic. It’s a new trendy store with knock-offs of sofas, tables, chairs and art, all at reasonable prices, and is very welcomed to the strip. Go take a look at their great pieces!

I recently came across Bev Hisey, a Toronto designer, when I popped into her shop on Dundas St. West. She creates textiles such as carpets, floor runners, cushions and blankets and her products have been really well received pretty much since she started.

Her hand-made products are all of excellent quality, from hand-tufting and knotting, to die-cutting and silk-screening. She has funky designs for adventurous home owners, and I am always excited to share local talent with others.

The item of the week is a great accent pillow. Enjoy!

Take a look at this beautiful pastry shop in San Pedro, Mexico, designed by Anagrama. Featuring delicious and colourful French macaroons, the contrast with the white is indeed elegant and luxurious.

If, you unfortunately cannot get to San Pedro like myself, may I remind you of a similar little pastry shop here on Queen St. West, in Toronto. Called Nadège, this less boutique-y in feel shop is equal in colour schemes, and is, I think, possibly just as yummy.

the Red design!

Should you have not read my previous post about the St. Lawrence Market, North Building competition, they have just announced today that Adamson Associates Architects and Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners were the winners. Congrats! Look at the winning design here.

This weekend, I popped by Studio b’s new pop-up retail store at 1860 Bayview Ave. Pop-up retail is a new fad, where a store opens a new location for only a few weeks or months at a time, sometimes only featuring one section of their products! Studio b’s pop-up shop is only open for 5 months, from now until September, roughly, and only focuses on their outdoor furniture. It showcases some of my favourite luxury outdoor furniture companies such as DEDON, Brown Jordan and Extremis among others. Go quickly before the showroom disappears!

Sex and the City 2 came out last night. And keeping with all things glamorous, I thought I’d feature these beauts as my weekly pick. Rooster feather lamps. That’s right. Totally suitable for little girls rooms, accent lamps on beautiful dressers or credenzas, and perhaps a  boudoir? Most definitely. Available at Trianon, located at 247 King St. East.

The past couple of days in Toronto have been quite the sizzler at a whopping “feels like” 36 degrees celsius. No, I’m definitely not complaining – I live for heat! When the city gets this nice out, the majority of the population, including myself, flock to the nearest patio for a cold bevvy. Here are some of my favourite patios downtown Toronto and Montreal I often visit:

Black Bull, Queen St. West
C Lounge,Wellington St. West
The Drake Hotel Sky Yard, Queen St. West
The Rebel House, Yonge St.
Czehoski’s, Queen St. West
Hemingway’s, Cumberland St.
The Madison Pub, Madison Ave.
Jack Astors, Front St. or John St.
Oasis Patio, Blue Jays Way

Montreal
Le Saint Sulpice, Rue St. Denis
Le Saint Elizabeth, Rue Saint Elizabeth

Here are a few pictures of random patios and outside spaces that I liked and that I wouldn’t mind being on right now with some friends! What are your favourite patio hangouts?
